What are GLP-1 medications

Discover how medical weight loss works — and how we guide you every step of the way.

GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1, a naturally occurring hormone your body releases after eating. It helps regulate blood sugar, slows down digestion, and signals fullness to your brain.

GLP-1 medications mimic this hormone to support weight loss and metabolic health.  These medications help you feel full, slow digestion and reduce cravings. When used alongside lifestyle changes and clinical monitoring, they can be a powerful tool in long-term management.

The two most well-known treatments are:

  • Semaglutide (brand names: Wegovy, Ozempic)

  • Tirzepatide (brand names: Mounjaro, Zepbound – also targets GIP, another metabolic hormone)

With the right support and monitoring, they can lead to clinically significant weight loss — up to 15–22% of body weight over time (based on trial data).
